My first comment its an easy border crossing, the only thing being you have to be prepared for a lot of questioning and waiting time, you have multiple options in border crossing into Russia and you can select form any one of them.

​Note: The first thing you have to understand is currently as per 2025 the rules to enter Russia not all border check points are allowed to cross with an e-visa. Check from here before you plan.

So the best suggestion from my end would be to take Stamped visa from India before you start your journey. ​

Documents needed :- These are for Indians so kindly check if you are an international traveler.

1) Passport 

2) Original Rc card only owners vehicles allowed​

3) Itinerary

4) Proof of funds 

 

Russia Visa​

 

- To enter overland Russia with an e-visa the borders are restricted and selected only so the best option is to apply for an multi entry stamped visa from the home country.​

 

 Kazakhstan Border:- ​

- So, its going to be very simple, select the border depending on the above website list, reach the border.​

- they will ask for Passport , RC card, and Temporary import paper ( this will be given to you while entering Kazakh)

- Given them this papers, If you haven't over stayed and all documents are good, they will Stamp you out in passport And ask you to proceed for vehicle checking.

- Next go for vehicle checking, after checking they will ask you to proceed to the exit toll.

- At the entry toll you will be given with a small paper with your vehicle details written on it. Hand over that paper and you are free to go.

Russia Border:- 

- Plz be very carful for the next steps its going to help a lot.

- As soon as you go near the Russia entry Toll, you will be handed over with a paper to Fill, In which while writing your name, convert your name from English to Russian and write that on the paper. rest you can write on English.

- Next you will be asked to enter and park near the immigrations office.

- Next go in to the office show your passport, show your visa, If all good, they will ask you to step into a room. 

- They will ask you a lot of questions and check your phone in case, be prepared for an hour to two they will ask everything, and hold on to your Kazakh sim because the network works and your translator will work.

-If all went good, they will ask you to proceed for vehicle checking. Once checking is done they will stamp on the papers given to you and proceed to enter into the Russia.

- The reason I asked you to write your Full Name in Russian is because that will be converted into a ID card.

- If this is written in Russian than you can use this ID card for buying SIM, open bank account and few other purpose.

- If you don't write it in Russian and its written in English than you will be asked to get an official letter signed with your details written in Russian and signed by an official. 

- So be carful with this step.

Currency and Sim:-

- Due to the on going issues, Non of our cards will work in Russia nether your bank transfers will work so only cash will work.

- Best is to take cash from Kazakh and convert at the border with Russian money.

- Sim you can buy it in the first village you will in stay on the first day.
